Joseph L. Essex,
vice president of Technical Operations
As vice president of Technical Operations, Joseph is responsible for all technical sites and the operations staff that oversees voice switching and ancillary technical platforms, delivers services and deploys new network assets. Joseph manages a combined staff of technicians and engineers who monitor and configure equipment in over a dozen facilities on five continents. In addition to iBasis equipment, they are frequently called upon to use their expertise to help configure and manage similar hardware in partners’ facilities.
Since joining iBasis in 1998, Joseph has held several positions within the operations/engineering environment including Director of Infrastructure, responsible for CapEx equipment deployment and field staff activities.
Prior to joining iBasis, Joseph managed provisioning and integration efforts for LCI International and its successor, Qwest. He also acquired experience and recognition for excellent performance in communications, operations, leadership and management during his 20-year career in the US Air Force. Joseph holds degrees in telecommunications and management from both the Air Force accredited college and the University of Maryland
