Q:
Who is iBasis?
A:
iBasis is one of the largest carriers of international voice traffic in the world with more than 20% market share of all international VoIP traffic. Our network spans more than 100 countries with interconnections to more than 400 carrier customers, including many of the world's largest Tier-One carriers, as well as the fastest growing consumer VoIP providers such as Skype and Yahoo!. Four years in a row other carriers have named iBasis the #1 international wholesale carrier in the International Wholesale Carrier Report Card an independent studyconducted annually by Atlantic-ACM, an industry analyst firm.
iBasis' international services are provisioned on The iBasis Network, a global VoIP network that leverages the economic advantages inherent in packet-switched as opposed to circuit-switched communications. The iBasis Network, a Cisco Powered network, is one of the most technologically advanced global VoIP networks in the world. We carried approximately 8 billion minutes of VoIP traffic over the network in 2005. The use of the public Internet allows iBasis to be a low-cost provider for international wholesale services. By purchasing services from iBasis, carriers can also avoid the cost and complication of having to negotiate multiple termination agreements for international calls. iBasis has negotiated strategic agreements to terminate traffic in some of the fastest-growing telecommunications markets including China, India, Mexico and Russia.

Carriers connect via PSTN or IP circuits to The iBasis Network at one of our Internet Central Offices (ICOs) in New York, Los Angeles, London, Paris, Frankfurt, Hong Kong or Tokyo. iBasis digitizes, compresses, and packetizes these signals and passes the traffic through gateways and across The iBasis Network.
Origination Requirements
Our overseas partners receive, regroup and convert the traffic back into analog voice/fax for local transmission.
Q:
How does iBasis differ from other Internet Telephony Service Providers (ITSPs)?
A:
iBasis is a wholesale international service provider. The company has built a robust network capable of delivering voice services worldwide using IP protocol and employing the public Internet as the long-haul transmission method of choice.
Carrier customers receive all of the economic benefits of IP telephony without having to change their operations. Callers use regular telephones and do not have to switch their long distance carrier.
The iBasis Network delivers and maintains toll-quality service. Its sophisticated Network Operations Centers (NOC) utilize Assured Quality Routing (AQR) technology, iBasis's patent-pending set of tools and processes that enable proactive rerouting around points of congestion on the Internet to maintain Tier-One grade call quality.
Q:
What about the quality of Internet telephony or VoIP?
A:
Delivering high quality of service while using the Internet for international transport of voice traffic has historically presented significant challenges to the VoIP industry. iBasis has developed proprietary, patent-pending technology that enables it to effectively manage the way calls travel through its network and the Internet to achieve the highest level of voice quality and call completion. This technology automatically selects the best route for every call based on network performance data collected in real time, and routes calls around points of congestion in the Internet to assure the highest quality service. As a result, iBasis consistently delivers call completion rates equal to or higher than industry averages as reported by many of the leading international Public Switched Telephone Network ("PSTN") carriers.
The Company's ability to deliver this level of quality at a lower cost is a major reason why iBasis has been successful in establishing agreements with the largest US-based carriers and other Tier-One carriers around the world. The software development work and expertise represented in iBasis' proprietary technology and traffic management practices represent a significant competitive advantage for the Company.
Q:
How does iBasis work with its international partners?
A:
Many international carriers are seeking IP telephony partners with leadership, expertise, and established networks that can deliver quality service at a low cost. iBasis enters into partnerships with these organizations and other service providers looking to install and operate equipment to originate and terminate calls in their host country.
Partners are compensated on a per-minute basis terminated via the partner's POP.
For originating carriers, iBasis offers extensive code coverage, high call completion rates, and very competitive rates to hundreds of destinations.
Q:
Who are iBasis' customers?
A:
As of Q1 2006, more than 400 carriers worldwide are iBasis customers using The iBasis Network for international call completion. These carriers rely on The iBasis Network to supplement their own networks as needed, transparently to end users.
Customers include all of the U.S.-based Tier-One carriers and many leading overseas-based international carriers, such as Cable & Wireless, Telstra (Australia), Telefonica and Communications Authority of Thailand. Four of the five international licensed carriers in China are also iBasis customers.
Other wholesale customers include leading providers of prepaid calling cards and emerging providers of consumer VoIP services such as Skype and Yahoo!.
iBasis also has a growing base of retail customers who purchase prepaid calling services, either through distributors of our calling cards or through Pingo, our web-based prepaid calling service. Our retail customers represent the diversity of the telecommunications market; they include every type of person from every walk of life.
