iBasis For Internet Telephony and Advanced IP-based
Communications Services
Israeli
Carrier To Route Traffic Over iBasis' Global Network;
Provide Termination For iBasis Traffic in Israel
Burlington,
Mass.-March 15, 2000-iBasis, Inc., (Nasdaq: IBAS),
a leading Internet-based communications service provider
today announced that it has signed an agreement with
the Israeli carrier Barak for Internet telephony and
other advanced IP-based communications services. Barak
is a leading Israeli telecommunications provider that
is part of the Global One alliance, established by communications
giants Sprint, France Telecom and Deutsche Telekom.
As part of the agreement between the two companies,
Barak will be able to route international voice and
fax traffic over the iBasis Network, the world's
largest Cisco Powered Network for Internet Telephony,
and will terminate international traffic for iBasis
in Israel. In addition, the agreement establishes a
broader strategic relationship between the companies
that enables Barak to offer its customers other advanced
services from iBasis, including VoCore.
"Barak's
technologically advanced infrastructure and broad range
of communications services are excellent complements
to our global IP infrastructure and vision for advanced
Internet-based communications," said Ofer Gneezy,
president and CEO of iBasis. "Our partnership with
Barak extends our reach into the rapidly growing Israeli
market."
"Our cooperation with iBasis strengthens Barak's
position as a leading supplier of Internet-based communications
services for leading companies in Israel and the world."
said Avi Patir, CEO of Barak. "With their proven
quality and strategic focus on advanced Internet-based
communications services, our partnership with iBasis
will help us respond to our customers growing demand
for international service and enhanced offerings, such
as VoCore."
VoCore from iBasis
The strategic relationship established by the Internet
telephony agreement between the two companies enables
Barak to offer its customers other advanced IP-based
services from iBasis, including VoCore. iBasis and Cisco
Systems recently announced that they are joining forces
to deliver carrier-class, IP-based, VoCore services.
iBasis is deploying in its global network Cisco's VoCore
(UC) solution, called uOne
(Cisco Open Network Exchange.) uOne uses the open Internet
Protocol (IP) standard to unify communications methods
that were previously disjointed, including e-mail, fax
machines, voice mail systems, cellular phones, and the
Web. uOne enables users to initiate and return voice
calls and send and receive faxes, e-mail, and voice
messages- independent of location, time or device. iBasis
will offer VoCore to service providers as an outsourced
or hosted solution.
