Names Executive To Drive Mergers and Acquisitions,
Strategic Investments and Partnerships

Growing Internet-based Communications Service Provider
Appoints D.J. Long Vice President of Corporate Development
BURLINGTON,
Mass., August 28, 2000-iBasis, Inc. (Nasdaq: IBAS),
the leader in advanced Internet-based communications,
today announced that it has appointed D.J. Long as
vice president of Corporate Development. Long will
help iBasis continue its rapid growth by identifying
and evaluating new opportunities to expand the company's
portfolio of next generation, IP-based communications
services through mergers and acquisitions and other
strategic ventures.
Prior
to joining iBasis, Long served as senior vice president
of Business Development at i2i, Inc., a business-to-business,
ecommerce start-up. Long also led merger and acquisition
activity as director of Business Development at Avid
Technology, Inc., a leading provider of digital audio
and video tools for information and entertainment
applications.

Long brings 20 years
of high tech merger and acquisition and business development
experience to iBasis. At Avid Technology, where he
was responsible for mergers and acquisitions, strategic
partnerships, investments and joint development agreements,
Long led the company's successful acquisition of Microsoft's
Softimage subsidiary and established and managed the
company's strong strategic relationships with Intel,
IBM, Sony, Silicon Graphics, Microsoft and others.
Prior to Avid, Long held marketing and sales positions
at Lotus Development Corporation and Prime Computer,
Inc. Long also held senior marketing positions at
Servicesoft Corporation and Applix, Inc. Long holds
a B.S. in Finance from Boston College.
