Service Benefits and Feature Description
With iBasis toll-quality international Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) services, carriers and other service providers can originate and terminate traffic to and from The iBasis Network. The iBasis DirectVoIP™ service enables rapid direct IP interconnection with a wide variety of gateways, gatekeepers, session controllers, and SIP proxies from many of the leading equipment vendors.

The iBasis DirectVoIP service enables carriers to quickly establish direct VoIP interconnections with the iBasis global network for the exchange of international phone calls using VoIP infrastructure equipment from a large selection of vendors. Gateways, gatekeepers, softswitches, and session border controllers from more than 20 vendors have been DirectVoIP Certified™ following extensive interoperability testing in iBasis' interoperability labs and are being used in international traffic exchange today.
The program provides the following benefits to partners, providers and customers:
- Rapid direct VoIP interconnects with international VoIP deployments completed and activated in several days in contrast to typical weekly interconnect times to TDM telecommunication carriers.
- Cost-effective and scalable VoIP interconnects to carriers and providers eliminating the need for increased capital expense associated with fixed TDM circuits, local loops, digital cross-connect switches and gateway ports in global interconnect facilities and data centers.
- Enhanced Call Signaling control using standards-based VoIP protocols such as H.323 and SIP allowing internetworking and operability to multi-vendor gateways, gatekeepers, proxy servers, session border controllers, softswitches, and IP Phones.
- Simplified network peering using signaling interoperability through protocol proxies and session border controllers that enhance performance and provide carrier-class quality metrics.
- Provides superior service quality through session routing and media routing or "packet steering" (route through and route around)
- Interdomain security (topology hiding via public to private, private to private, and private to public interconnects) and CDR generation/aggregation via a single billing ingress point.
- Promotes traffic origination from a wide variety of sources, i.e. wholesale carrier H.323 and SIP origination networks, Internet Service Provider networks that aggregate retail PC-to-Phone and IP phone traffic, and enterprise traffic.
- Origination and/or Re-origination traffic leverages all of the benefits of the iBasis Global Network architecture including Assured Quality Routing (AQR) and PathEngine technologies for high call completion and quality.
